智利一架載有38人的C130 Hercules軍用運輸機9日傍晚原定飛往南極科學考察站蒙塔爾瓦總統基地（Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva），卻在途中失聯。
智利軍方目前已派遣各方搜尋小組和救援團隊希望找到失蹤的飛機。據悉該架軍機原本是要執行例行的維護任務，上面載有17位機組人員，其餘為乘客。
